With sweat soaked skin and dirt stained jerseys players battle it out on the field series after series. The bench is near empty on either sideline with so many players carted off due to injury or exhaustion. Coaches yelling, owners screaming, and the roar of the crowd, although split by team allegiance, is unified in a sound only paralleled by a space shuttle after the countdown. They ready at the line, a silence sweeps the dome only broken by the voice of a quarterback as he prepares…for the SNAP…a whistle is blown, flags fill the air, and a clock ticks to it’s final moment. A review is called, It seems that for now the fate of either team is undecided, but who did you root for #TeamSex or #TeamLove?

@EDNix, a 7th ward bred NOLA MC is one of the cities well versed artist. Using lyrics to illustrate and educate, E.D. Nix a member of Grand Scheme, also founder of (now dispersed) group I.C.U. & part of the Inner Recess crew. With his two solo projects “On My Way Home” & the recent release “Higher Earning” as well as a number of features and appearances and shows in and out of the city Nix is a known voice on the scene. Like many artist at his level the thought of bigger and maybe better beyond the levee walls is an idea he is willing to explore. Nix has made plans to leave the Big Easy in order to pursue his career on a larger scale.

Words are all around us, they’re used to explain, illustrate, determine, distinguish, instruct, destroy, build, unite, separate, capture, restrict, & invite. When was the last time words were used in your favor? How about that stop sign on the corner? Or “NO SHOES NO SHIRT NO SERVICE”? Or the words “Danger High Voltage” near the power plant? Or even the words “Must be 18 to enter? Imagine if you couldn’t understand these words, if they were no more than oddly configured symbols only presented to you in times of deep confusion? Now imagine your a child? No experience in the world coupled with no knowledge of these symbols, you wouldn’t have a chance.  

In 2005 a group of young people no different from those you may see in the mall or streets of your neighborhoods took change into they’re own hands. This group is called “2 Cent”, they have taken they’re individual talents in visual art, videography, writing, acting, comedy, singing & rapping, & molded the perfect vehicle for gaining positive attention with the focus being education.  ”A lot of the problems that are in New Orleans when it comes down to crime & poverty stem right back from education, we’re trying to go back to the days when learning was fun.” - Kevin Griffin

One of they’re most recent endeavors is called “Listen Fest” a festival centered around children’s literacy featuring local talent both literary & musical. The event features book giveaways for all children present, prize giveaways, live book & poetry readings, music, food, & family.

Once again this year the #Awayteam will be holding a book drive in support of the 2 Cent mission. We will be collecting children’s books on May 11th & 18th at The Tipping Point. For more info on Listen Fest & if you would like to volunteer with 2 Cent for the festival please click on photo above .

Over the past 3 years of its existence, UNIQUITY has featured over 70+ artists ranging from throughout the South to New York City, 6 hosting DJs, and 2 spinoff events. Please join us to celebrate our very special 3-year anniversary show with special featured artist, Nesby Phips, best known for his production credits on Curren$y’s Pilot Talk & Pilot Talk II albums in addition to his own solo production and deft lyricism. Phips will be joined onstage by fellow producer/NOLA hiphop emcee/producer/videographer, Jon Mercure, and respected rap duo, the TNC Boys. All artists will be accompanied by our live jazz band, Fo on the Flo.

Hosted by Slangston Hughes with DJ RQ Away on the 1’s & 2’s throughout the night.

Starting Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning April 24th RQ Away will be filling in on WTUL for the great E.F. Cuttin while he’s out for the #JetLife tour. The show is called Reel 2 Real Radio Below The Bassment, also hosted by DJ Johnny Bapo, and it features Hip Hop from all over the country and the world, underground and well known alike. RQ Away’s stint will last for 8 weeks so all summer you can catch the #Awayteam on WTUL 91.5.
